In 1303, Alauddin Khilji, the then Turkic ruler, defeated Rana Ratan Singh’s army to capture it. There were many battles fought later over control of the fort between Rajputs and Mughals. WebIt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Built during the 15th century by Rana Kumbha, Kumbhalgarh fort is also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, the great king and warrior of the Mewars. Occupied until the end of the 19th century, it is now open to the public and is illuminated for a few minutes each evening.
